Conditions for Marriage Registration
The parties applying for marriage registration shall meet the following conditions:
1. Marriageable age
The parties must have attained to the mimimum ages for marriage stipulated in the Civil Code, i.e., 22 and 20 for the male and the female, respectively.
2. Free will
They should agree on their marriage of their free will rather than under threat, coercion, or other illegal circumstances.
3. No bigamy
They should be single or divorced.
4. No prohibited relationship
They are not lineal blood relatives or collateral blood relatives within three generations.
5. No prohibited disease
They are not suffering from any disease that is considered medically unsuitable for marriage, including (1) severe genetic disease; or (2) sexually transmitted disease or any other infectious disease that is believed in medicine to affect marriage or childbirth.
6. Permanent resident
Either party or both parties should have a permanent residence in the jurisdiction where the registration authority is located.
7. Appearance in person
Both parties must appear in person before the marriage registration authority to apply for marriage registration by presenting their ID cards, household registration certificates, and other necessary documents. No agency is permitted for marriage registration.
