Interpretations of "Title Five Marriage and Family" of the Civil Code (Article 18)
(Selected from translated works authored by Robert Zhang & Steve Li)
Article 18 Where an actor, with the purpose of forcing another person to marry the actor against such other person's true will, threatens to cause damage to the life, body, health, reputation, or property or other damage to such other person or their close relatives, such a marriage may be deemed a "forced marriage" as referred to in Article 1052 of the Civil Code.
In the case of a forced marriage, only the spouse forced to marry the other spouse may file a lawsuit for annulment of the marriage on the ground of coercion.
